In the previous blog we described how the theme of well-being is reflected in the Czech workplace environment. What about the productivity of people in the workplace?
The main theme of this year’s TechoCon is Well-Being and Sustainability – two mutually connected fields that will be examined from all perspectives during the day-long programme. What about hard data? What do available studies tell us about office life and work?
During the morning panel discussions experts will discuss the current state of Well-Being and Sustainability in the Czech environment. In today’s article we will focus on hard data. It is possible to determine something measurable and quantifiable about current trends in the office environment. However, some things remain a matter of speculation and also very often the guarded know-how of specific companies.
“In the coming years almost three-quarters of Czech respondents expect a growth in work-based social networks, over half expect a growth in online platforms for teamwork, and almost half expect a growth in communication applications. With the increase in flexible working and working from home there is likely to be a reduction in face-to-face meetings in favour of conference calls and videoconferences,” state the authors of a 2018 Deloitte study Human resource trends in the Czech Republic and internationally.
Ever greater roles in facilitating teamwork within organisations are being played by online tools such as Slack (which was floated on the stock exchange recently), Skype and HipChat.
Yes, as a team we can now work together and share information at any time and from any place: even the organisation team of TechoCon works from several locations and, for example, this article is checked by a further three people working off-site.
60% of Czech respondents expect that their use actually contributes to increased work productivity. In this respect they are less optimistic than respondents globally – only 19% of them have any doubt that the new tools will lead to a genuine increase in productivity.
“Connectivity” trends
What can we expect from the perspective of connectivity and sustainability in the coming years?
- ¾ of Czech respondents expect a growth in work-based social networks
- almost 60% of those surveyed expect that the growth in their use will result in genuine productivity gains
- more than ½ expect a growth in the use of online platforms for teamwork
- almost ½ foresee a growth in the use of communications applications
With the increase in flexible working and working from home there is likely to be a reduction in face-to-face meetings in favour of conference calls and videoconferences.
“For the generation of today’s teenagers e-mail is becoming something of an anachronism. They prefer to use social channels for communication with a defined group of people having similar interests. This is also reflected in workplace communication, which is why platforms like Slack, HipChat and Campfire are today used as the standard means of communication for small to medium-sized work teams” state the authors of the study.
